Creativtiy 10/14/2020 (Learning Outcome 5)
One of my favorite ways to spend the weeknights is at band practice. This is an hour and a half of my Tuesday nights where I get to spend time with my friends and play music, two things I enjoy doing. We get together in someone's backyard and work together to come up with, learn, and play songs. Although many people don't often realize, it can be much more difficult to play with a band than it is to play music by yourself. It requires listening to eachother and following along. You cannot simply play whatever, whenever, you actually have to listen to other people and make sure you are playing cohesively in a way that sounds good for other listeners. Although at first it can be difficult to play together, once you do you realize how much of a benefit it gives to the music. Everything sounds better and fuller, and it is just more enjoyable to listen to. You also realize that when you are playing in sync with others you are having more fun because you know you are creating something that sounds good and people will enjoy listening to.
This is a part of learning outcome 5, because I am learning to work with others to create something that is better than if I just worked by myself. Listening to eachother and putting things together, whether in a band, or a school project is an important skill to have. Working well with others is important to learn how to do, and by starting with a band practice I am able to collaborate with others and carry it into other areas of my life.
