Activity 9/11/21 (Learning Outcome 1)

 We had our first league volleyball game yesterday and it was a lot of fun! While we didn't play our best and we lost pretty badly to the other team, it was a game that really exposed our weaknesses and what we need to improve on. Many of the schools we are playing have been practicing since the summer, while we have only been practicing for a few weeks. Despite this, we still have been trying to take advantage of our practice time to be able to create the optimum team for our games. The game was far away, and everyone got to play which was nice and it was just fun to be back on the court. The game was very exhausting because there was a lot of running involved because the other teams hits were hard to get to, but we got more used to moving around the court and covering holes in our defense. Overall it was a fun game and good to be with the team, but we have a lot of improvements to make and hopefully we will do better when we play this team in the future. While it can be discourag...

Service 9/15/21 (Learning Outcome 6)

During an event for NCL, we were each asked to make a few cards for the organization Literacy Now. These cards are meant to be encouraging for young readers to motivate them to keep going even if it is challenging. I always enjoy small projects like this, because they show how much something so small can change a persons day. Even though one card may only take me 5 minutes, by adding colors and encouraging words I can help a student learn and hopefully improve their reading skills. Reading is super important and I think it can be highly tied to success. Learning how to read and speak well at a young age is important, but if you don't always have parents around to help or support you--which is the case of many of these students--can be difficult. By making these cards, even if there is not a parent or other family member actively there supporting a child, that child is getting the support they need just from a little card.
