Activity 4/14/2021 (Learning Outcome 2)
Yesterday evening I spent an hour of my time at triathlon training. This training is both rewarding and very painful at the same time. I am really able to push myself and work as hard as I am willing to, but in the moment it can be very dififcult and hard to keep going. However, being able to have this activity that I am going to do at the end of every day is super encouraging to me and helps me get through the long school days. Yesterday my focus was on running. I love running because it is fast and great exercise, and I dislike it because it can be extremely difficult. I started by doing a quick warmup, then I started my 20 minute run with variations in speed. I worked my way up from a jog to a sprint then back down. This practice was good because it sort of mirrors what you would be doing in a race. There are times when you are running at a steady pace, then you need to pass someone so you speed up, or you sprint at the end. I know that working hard during practice is going to help me be able to do this more effectively in a race when I am already tired. That is why it is important that I work hard in training.
All of this practice eventually goes into my races. Triathlons are extremely difficult to complete. They are hugely mental because you are pushing yourself for longer periods of time then you would be if you were doing just one sport, or a cross country race or something like that. Because of that it takes a lot of training and lots of dedication. The idea of finishing a race is often what motivates me to keep going in practice. I know all of this hard work is going to pay off to help me race my best and improve my time. If I don't work hard now, I may be disappointed in my results later on.
This practicing has fallen under learning outcome 1, because there are days when it is extremely challenging and I feel like I won't be able to take another step. but then I do and I come back to the next day stronger and ready to challenge myself. I am grateful for the opportunity to do this training and by pushing myself I am able to improve and gain new bike, running and swimming skills which lead to a healthier lifestyle and give me something to look forward to each evening.
