Activity 2/28/22 (Learning Outcome 4)

We had our first track meet of the season over the weekend, and at the end I was so proud of how it ended up going. The track meet lasted two days, with Friday being mostly field events and long running races, then Saturday being the shorter running events. Because I had decided I wanted to throw shotput in addition to running, I had to go for both days. On Friday I arrived after school and after finding our coach promptly began warming up for the shotput. I got four throws to see how far I could throw. In the end I ended up placing last, and most people might think I would be disappointed about that--but I wasn't! This wasn only the second time (in my entire life) that I had thrown I shotput. I haven't mastered the form, and I could also do with some muscle building. So even though I wasn't great, it was still fun to try something new and I was proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and being willing to try something new. On Saturday morning I arrived in the sub 30 degree weather and rain freezing cold. Even with 5+ layers I was still shivering. Luckily, the meet ended up going by super quickly. I ran the mile and got my fastest time ever thanks to the help of my teammates cheering me on. Overall, I had a great time at the meet and walked away feeling proud of how I had done.

This is a part of learning outcome 4, especially when it comes to throwing the shot put. While I had never done it before and wasn't sure what to expect, I ended up learning a lot from the experience. I know I want to continue throwing, and hopefully get some more practice in where I can improve my form and distance of my throws. While being last could be discouraging to many people, for me it just made me realize that I can only go up from here so I should take this chance to be patient and work harder to improve.
